Our studio deals with the conservation of historic works of art and architecture. We benefit from the experience of accredited conservators and technicians certified in the field of restoration of paintings, sculptures, and architectural elements. We work in cooperation with experts with diverse specialisations.

We carry out complex conservation projects, from initial specialist analysis, preparation of conservation work programmes, and the works’completion, up to all documentation post-completion. We also engage in consulting and preparation of grant applications for conservation project funding.

The nature of our work

Our work is first and foremost about inhibiting the continuous process of the disintegration of physical matter.

In doing this, we also have the particular privilege of working with matter assembled in an exceptionally beautiful fashion. Dealing with historic works of art, we have the opportunity to grasp specific moments of artistry that have been immortalised in beautiful forms and thus have endured till this day.

We do everything we can to salvage them and ensure they continue to survive.

Our studio

The conservation of historic works of art is a complex discipline. It’s a combination of the fine arts, the humanities, and the sciences - painting, sculpture, elements of art history, physics, chemistry, dendrology, microbiology, and many others.

Each restoration of a historical work of art is an endeavour with multiple stages.

We begin with a process of inquiry, time spent in libraries and archives. After that, we turn to the sciences, where we examine the physical composition of the matter we’re working with. Thanks to the preliminary stages of analysis, we know what could damage a particular piece, and what we must do to ensure it remains in good condition. Then, we move on to the next step: here, manual skills play a key role. We remove the topmost layers of debris, accumulated over years of contamination, repainting, forgery. Sometimes, we have to unearth a work from under several thick, centuries-old layers of history. We then strengthen and secure the uncovered original.  We  reinforce weakened structures. We replenish any losses and often reconstruct missing fragments.

In order to carry out the whole process thoroughly and with precision, we combine the efforts of specialists in numerous fields.
